Reima AW’18 collection celebrates the joy of movement

Reima softshell jackets are active kids' favourites

Since 1944, Reima has developed clothing solutions for active kids. The brand has gradually evolved into a market leader in premium performance wear for children. Now Reima is encouraging children in more than 37 countries to be active, in order to help the next generation grow up healthy and happy.

Original design with a Nordic heritage

The Reima Autumn/Winter 2018 Reima collection is a tribute to Finnish forests and Nordic nature. Tales and places of the Arctic become alive in the print patterns and product names. Sporty vivid and broken natural colours take turns in the apparel and active wear outfits, creating a rhythm as natural as breathing. The design themes draw their inspiration from our environment, from small details of nature to the cosmic magnitude of the Milky Way.

As versatile as active life

Several key items of the collection are 2-in-1 or 3-in-1, and have many uses, all year round. The result is versatility, buying fewer items and lengthening the product life. Clever layering underneath expands the thermal comfort zone of the outerwear to very low temperatures. Many Reima base and mid-layer solutions now come with more wool, for two good reasons: additional warmth and fewer microplastic emissions into the environment.

Reima’s reflective all-over print makes sure kids get seen

Always worth seeing

A super hit, first introduced in the Reima autumn/winter 2017 collection, the reflecting Vilkku mitten continues its triumphal march in 2018. The mitten is a state-of-the-art reflector, CE-certified to offer 360° visibility in traffic when worn over the sleeve as instructed. Reima designers are now introducing reflectivity into new areas: the jackets and overalls with reflecting all-over print are visually very impressive, especially in the dark!

Water-repellent Reima Thermolite jeans 'Trick'Jeans reinvented

A special piece in the autumn 2018 collection: water and dirt-repellent jeans that also have an outstanding insulation capability, yet look and feel exactly like regular blue jeans. The Thermolite® fibres in the fabric have a double function: the fibres are hollow, so they insulate very well against cold, and they lead moisture away from the skin, which helps keep the skin dry and warm. The fabric is water and dirt-repellent thanks to the safe, fluorocarbon-free* Teflon EcoElite® durable water repellence surface treatment. Moreover, the elastic fabric makes sure that all the moves a kid can do, the jeans will, too.

Sweater of GOTS certified organic cotton

Soft to meet the world, organic to preserve it

The cotton in the new Reima Green Line products is GOTS certified organic farming, guaranteed to be non-toxic and ecological. The comfortable, brushed French terry quality is a true all-round material: brushed to be soft against the skin for all-day comfort, great for indoors and outdoors, for school and play.

Waterproof 'Laplander' boots w. Vibram Arctic Grip soles

Get a good grip on glaciers

Reima is collaborating with Vibram to introduce durable Arctic Grip soles in children’s boots as the first producer in the world. Vibram has specially developed the Vibram® Arctic Grip system to perform on wet ice. The Laplander boots will bring this feature to all Reima markets, thus enabling safer steps on cold, icy and snowy surfaces.

Discovering the joy of movement

By developing products that allow free movement, and innovations that encourage kids to be active, Reima wants to fight against the trend of kids becoming inactive and help parents to keep their kids active. Together with Suunto, the leading brand for sports watches, dive computers and sports instruments used by adventurers all over the globe, Reima has developed the ReimaGO® concept. It consists of a wearable sensor that measures kids’ physical activity, a free game-like app that motivates kids to be active, and a wide collection of clothing with a special pocket for the sensor. The free ReimaGO app is downloadable from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Parents can also use the app without the sensor, to easily keep a diary on their kids’ activity and reward them for being active.

*Why no fluorocarbons?

Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) belong to a larger group known as fluorocarbons. All fluorocarbon water & dirt repellents are made with PFCs, or using substances that can biodegrade to PFCs. Their performance is excellent, BUT they:

  • are stable – they take a long time to degrade in nature
  • accumulate in the environment and in all animals & humans
  • appear to be carcinogenic
  • may affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals

What does Reima use instead of PFCs?

  • BIONIC-FINISH® ECO by RUDOLF group – based on hyper-branched polymers called dendrimers
  • TeflonTM EcoEliteTM – a renewably sourced, bluesign® approved plant-based finish
