MOTIVATION FROM THE JYRU

Kupilka cups have been the benchmark for years regarding durability and sustainable materials. Their NFC-material is a composite of wood based cellulose and thermoplastic making it extremely tough and easy to care for (dishwasher safe). The Kupilka 37 is the newest addition to the line and has just the right size to use it as a mug and as a bowl. The jury was also impressed by the simplicity and function of the design. »It’s a hugging mug«, states one jury member while holding the cup.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

The robust, yet light, biomaterial (50 % cellulose fibres from certified Finnish forests + 50 % thermoplastic) gives this 2-in-1 cup its unique appearance. It’s smooth to the touch surface and good thermal properties. The product is also dishwasher safe.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

The design of the cup is carefully thought through and the product fits in your hand(s) perfectly. The surface is smooth to the touch and the pattern on each cup is unique. Both the biomaterial and the products are manufactured in Finland using EKOenergy.

SUSTAINABILITY

Plasthill, the manufacturer, has acted as a pioneer in environmental values since established in 1996. In 1998, Plasthill started using green electricity in all production, first company in Finland. All waste is minimised and defective pieces are recycled within the factory. Plasthill’s goal is to move from an eco-friendly approach to supporting nature. They use biomaterial, EKOenergy and recycled packaging. At the end of its life cycle, the cup can be recycled, incinerated for heat energy or returned to the manufacturer for re-use.
