Back in 1892 F.W. Lindqvist and J.V. Svenson created the world’s first soot-free kerosene stove in their small blacksmith workshop in central Stockholm and aptly called it Primus (meaning first). Rapidly the name became synonymous with reliable stoves and Primus stoves became the primary choice for those heading off on first ascents and demanding expeditions, including Roald Amundsen, the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911.
In 1999 Primus opened the doors to its factory in Tartu, Estonia in order to meet demand, delivery times and guarantee the highest quality standard. Primus’ commitment to ‘made in Europe’ continues to be key and to date Primus remains the only stove manufacturer who still produces its stoves in Europe. Each step, from initial design through to production is done internally in the R&D facility as well as out in the field and every single product undergoes extensive testing and intense quality control procedures, which involves firing up each stove, before leaving the factory.
CEO of Primus Lars-Ola Brolinson comments: “When we create new products it’s based on a genuine love, passion and respect for the outdoors and respect for nature. Drawing on our 125 years of experience, technical expertise, first class engineering and use of sustainable materials we continue to produce products that are a truly reliable, life-long companion. Today, we are firmly established as an international brand and our products are distributed now in over 60 countries. We also pride ourselves on our world-wide spare parts availability and after-sales care. Currently our team of engineers are busy creating innovative new products for 2018. There are exciting times ahead as we continue to ‘keep the flame burning’.”
In 1892 F.W Lindqvist, from Stockholm, created the world’s first soot-free kerosene stove that made life simpler for adventurers. Since then, Primus products have made countless expeditions possible. Passion, for the outdoors and the technical expertise is the secret behind every one of Primus innovations and what ensure that the products become reliable and life-long companions.
