In February 2019, Icebug became the world’s first climate positive outdoor footwear brand. In June, Icebug also dealt with the past and is now climate positive from the start of the company in 2001.
The journey towards climate positive has been fast. From aiming to be climate positive by 2020 and not really know what that would mean, to actually go ahead and do it just a couple of months later.
Icebug followed the UNFCC’s Climate Neutral Now initiative (measure, reduce, offset) and offsets directly in the projects (with the UN’s CDM approval to ensure scientific based integrity).
When that step was done, Icebug directly looked towards the future. To work even more with the measure and reduce part. But why not also do something about the past?
Icebug did.
In June 2019 Icebug managed to clean up its past by investing in more offsetting projects by the UN. All greenhouse gas emissions Icebug has caused since Icebug was founded 2001 are now compensated.
– It was a natural next step. We have been borrowing recourses from nature for 18 years and it’s time to pay it back, in the best way we can, says David Ekelund, CEO of Icebug.
About Icebug
Icebug is a Swedish shoe company that back in 2001 started to challenge the global footwear giants with new innovative traction technologies. The reason why Icebug started was the frustration of having to choose between slipping or saying no to outdoor activities because of the risk of slipping. Icebug traction technologies enable people to enjoy outdoor activities all year around, no matter the conditions.
