MOTIVATION FROM THE JURY

The Overall Winner for this season is the Fjällräven Lappland Hike 15, a 15 Liter backpack designed for hunting and hiking. The unique features are the back panel and shoulder pads that are made of hard-pressed, undyed wool from European farms. It is a coarse quality that normally would be burned. -This back-panel-construction eliminates the need of petroleum-based plastic, foam and fabrics – a great step forward to make packs more sustainable, says one Jury member. Main fabric is G-1000 Heavy Duty Eco that can be waxed with eco-friendly Fjällräven Greenland Wax to make it water repellent. During testing the pack also impressed, with great carrying comfort and all the right features.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

This ergonomic, versatile daypack is designed for activities that require high freedom of movement where its narrow profile gives an excellent fit. It features an innovative back plate made from hard-pressed, recovered wool. The back panel and shoulder straps also use recovered wool, making them durable, heat regulating and odour-resistant. The pack is easy to adapt to the user.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

For outdoor activities that require high freedom of movement, equally great for day hikes or hunting. Perfect for hunters who walk long distances – for example on pürsch hunts or when searching for wounded game – and who need to comfortably carry essentials for a day in the forest or field.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

The comfortable carrying system where back panel and shoulder straps have durable Loden wool makes the fit perfect. Main fabric in hardwearing, water-resistant G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco S with a waterproof base in 500D nylon. Backpanel and shoulder straps in 100% wool. All wool used is European, 100% traceable and recovered from production spill. The supple shoulder straps are designed not to interfere with gun handling and the hip strap can be stowed away and has a detachable pocket for storing a range finder or extra ammunition. Constructed with two zippered main compartments with a 15L total volume.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

The back plate and back surface are made from recovered, un-dyed wool – a functional and sustainable alternative to petroleum based plastics, foams and fabrics. The wool is in it’s natural colour, eliminating the need for dyeing processes and thus reducing water, chemical and energy use in production. The wool is fully traceable and sourced from European farms. It is a coarse quality that would otherwise have been burned, so in this sense the back panel turns waste into a valuable raw material. Reinforced base in waterproof nylon for extra resistance to hard wear.
